Frøslev Flamewood

Frøslev Flamewood is wood with a surface that has been carbonised to a greater or lesser degree. It gives a beautiful and unique surface, and the wood is protected for many, many years. The treatment is inspired by the ancient Japanese burning tecchnique Shou Sugi Ban. The treatment gives the wood a deep black to shiny silver colour. The variant Naoshima is made of Douglas Fir.

Patination and maintenance

Douglas fir patinates quickly

Over time, Frøslev Douglas fir patinates naturally into a greyish colour. Untreated terrace boards will patinate very quickly after installation.

Maintain with terrace oil

Untreated terrace boards are susceptible to black mould. To avoid mould formation and discolouration, we therefore recommend treatment of terrace boards using terrace oil with added fungicides and pigment right after installation.

This increases the durability of the wood, avoids rapid patination and minimises cracking to the extent possible.
