Facades

Wood is the obvious choice for cladding as it reduces the climate footprint from construction and adds a beautiful, warm and natural look. Wood is easy to work with and stays nice year after year. So the hardest part is choosing which profile, wood or surface you prefer among more than 1,000 various combination options.

Our profiles

Frøslev offers Denmark's largest selection of wooden profiles for cladding. With our large selection of thicknesses, widths, planing, surfaces and wood, you have more than 1,000 different combination options to choose from. Below are some of our most popular profiles. You can also see them in our profile selector here.

Frøslev has wood for every look

Façade wood provides many benefits. Frøslev does the processing of all façade profiles. Wood is ideal in relation to the CO2 accounts of construction, and our workers have much experience within installation.

But wood is more than just wood. Some wood is more suitable for cladding than other wood, allowing the possibility of experimenting with shapes, patterns and structures to find just the right the visual look for your construction project.

Frøslev Embla ThermoWood pine

Frøslev Embla ThermoWood is heat-treated wood with outstanding durability and dimensional stability. Embla is resistant to dry-rot and wood-decay fungi and is therefore extremely suitable for outdoor cladding. Embla will look good for many years and will go through a beautiful, natural patination. Sature

We have developed a patented impregnation using naturally occurring silicate which is not biodegradable. The result of the impregnation is extremely durable wood which is very resistant to fungal attacks – without any use of biocides and heavy metals.

Frøslev Abodo

Frøslev Abodo is fast-growing pine from controlled plantation forestry in New Zealand. It has an exclusive look with clear and vibrant wood grains, is nearly knotless and has a warm, brown colour right from the beginning which will eventually patinate into a silver-grey shade. The wood is heat-treated, making it dimensionally stable and resistant to dry-rot and fungus.

Cedar

Cedar is a beautiful and exclusive wood species with integrated, natural protection. The wood is very beautiful for cladding and is particularly resistant to the elements with a documented life of at least 50 years. Our premium quality cedar is also nearly knotless.

Pressure-impregnated wood

Pressure-impregnated wood has been treated with protective agents to extend its natural durability. The impregnation makes the wood very hardy and protects it from microbial degradation from rot, fungal and insect attacks. The treatment makes pressure-impregnated wood suitable for most outdoor construction projects exposed to various conditions.

Painted wood

Painted wood shortens construction time and provides a better and safer surface treatment thanks to industrial application during which the wood is being primed and painted in the same process. The result is a longer life and longer maintenance intervals.

Fire-resistant wood

In case of a fire, the fire-proofing will reduce burn-in, spread of fire and smoke formation because of a chemical reaction in the proofing compound. Frøslev FlameBarrier is cladding processed with a fire-retardant primer and painted with water-based, flat paint finish. Frøslev FRX is fire-retardant wood which does not require surface treatment and/or painting.

Frøslev Flamewood

The top millimetres of Frøslev Flamewood have been carbonised. It gives the surface a beautiful and unique structure that also protects the wood so that it will last for many years. The treatment of the wood is inspired by the ancient Japanese burning technique Shou Sugi Ban which gives the wood a deep black to shiny silver colour, depending on the carbonisation.

Douglas

Douglas is an excellent choice for façades because of its classic features. It has the perfect feel of wood with visible knots and beautiful growth rings. Douglas will give you a beautiful façade. The wood is rich in resin, turpentine and tannins that act as natural defence mechanisms. These natural substances help protect the wood from insects, fungi and dry rot, extending the life of the wood.

We are passionate about sustainable and verified solutions. You can therefore rest assured that all of our wood is FSC®- or PEFCTM-certified – no matter the kind of wood you choose. Read more

The surface adds the final touch

The surfaces of the profiles result in various looks and also have an influence on how susceptible the profile is to the subsequent surface treatment.

When placing an order, stating the requested surface is important. You can choose from the following surfaces:

Planed surface (H)

The planed surface is entirely smooth and nice to look at as the grain is clearly visible.

When placing your order, state profile no. + H. Example 5206H

Paintcut surface (P)

A paintcut surface is characterised by small grooves in the grain direction. The surface is extremely suitable for painted elements as the paint adheres better, thus lasts longer.

When placing your order, state profile no. + P. Example 3036P

Brushed surface (B)

A brushed surface results in a more rustic look compared to the smoothly planed surface – without being entirely rough.

When placing your order, state profile no. + B. Example 0835B

Rough surface (R)

In Denmark, the rough surface is the most popular surface for cladding and is an excellent choice if the wood is to be subsequently painted.

When placing your order, state profile no. + R. Example 3005R

Installation and maintenance

How to install your façade

To ensure optimum durability of the wooden façade, the construction must always be made according to constructive wood protection principles to drain off water and protect the wood against the elements the best possible way. Follow our installation instructions.

How to maintain your façade

Following installation, the wood should be surface-treated using wood preservative to ensure optimum durability. Untreated wood exposed to the UV radiation of the sun and the elements will eventually patinate into a greyish shade.

Painted profiles are primed and painted the first time: The wood must be painted the second time following installation.

Q&A

WHICH PROFILE SHOULD I CHOOSE?

Choose “Class 2” and “25 mm raw wood dimensions” for cladding. Find wood profile

For secondary construction such as carports, tool sheds or bicycle sheds, all profiles can be used.

CAN I USE SLATS/STRIPS FOR MY HOUSE?

Slats and strips are open cladding and are not part of the pre-accepted solutions in the building regulations and do not meet current fire requirements. One reason is that in case of a fire at the façade, slats/strips can burn on all four sides and can cause the fire to spread up into the roof because of the chimney effect. Therefore, use Class 2 cladding, which are closed profiles, only. Profiles 3365, 3366 or 6255 all resemble strip cladding but are closed and approved Class 2 profiles. Find wood profile

CAN I INSTALL STRIP CLADDING IF THE INNER WALL IS BRICKWORK, AERATED CONCRETE OR AN INCOMBUSTIBLE BOARD?

Unfortunately, no. The outer element must meet the fire requirement (Class 2).

WILL UNTREATED THERMOWOOD STAY GREY JUST AS TEAK, FOR EXAMPLE?

All wood exposed to UV rays from the sun will turn grey over time – wood facing south sooner than wood facing north. Wood under eaves will hardly turn grey.

CAN I AVOID THIS DIFFERENCE IN COLOUR BY TREATING WOOD UNDER EAVES?

Not entirely. Obviously, you can oil the entire façade as needed to avoid pronounced differences in colour.

If you use Sature, all wood will turn grey – even under eaves so that differences in colour will seem minor. Sature not only turns grey because of UV rays but also because of air humidity.
