Sydhavnsskolen is a school located centrally in Sydhavnen, providing students with beautiful surroundings with good opportunities for education and development. The school was completed in 2015 and is intended to be a gathering point and residence for people in the new neighbourhood, both during and outside school hours.

It was built based on the idea of bringing ”the city into the school - the school out into the city”, which makes the building exciting for both students and staff. The wooden terrace with ThermoAsk from Frøslev Træ gives the very modern building a natural look and adds softness to the otherwise hard structure. ThermoAsk is a special, heat-treated product that gets its great design and good durability with no use of toxins or harmful gases.

Over the years, the wood on the terrace will patinate into a silver-grey shade that will change colours with the light and will look great for many years to come. It also makes it the perfect material for a terrace to be used by many people, students as well as staff.

JJW ARCHITECTS was behind the building which now adorns Copenhagen, and the building won the 2015 School Building Award of the Year. One look at the building, and you will understand why students as well as anyone else really like their new building.
