Musholm 21

Musholm

For many years, Muskelsvindfonden (muscular atrophy foundation) dreamt of creating a special holiday and sports centre for people with disabilities of all ages. That dream was fulfilled when the new expansion to Musholm in Korsør was completed in 2015. The purpose of the revolutionary building, clad with Canadian cedar from Frøslev Træ, is to be an inclusive facility for families with family members who have a disability.

The centre is located at the heart of the construction, and the holiday homes spread from there like ripples in a pond, imitating the surrounding bay and blending in with the wonderful area while bringing a stylish design to the well-known holiday and sports centre.

The new Musholm has won several awards since its construction, including the IOC/IAKS award for one of the world’s best sports facilities in 2017 and the IAUD award for the world’s most socially inclusive space in 2016.

The project is designed by AART Architects and built in collaboration with contractor Anker Hansen. The building owner is Muskelsvindfonden, and the result is an award-winning area for anyone regardless of their disability.

50 years. That is the minimum number of years which untreated 18 mm Canadian cedar boards will last in the Danish climate. That is the result of a test by the Danish Technological Institute
