Hospital Thy-Mors
The new emergency department at the Thy-Mors hospital was designed by Friis & Moltke that won the competition in 2010, and the new department was ready in 2013. The architect’s task was to create a building that would fit well into the cityscape. That was achieved by using ThermoAsk, giving the building good dynamics and sharp lines in contrast to the white bricks.
Terrace boards on a façade? Well, why not? Those were the thoughts of the architects after we had presented them with the many possibilities that exist in using different types of wood. A good dialogue between creative minds and wood specialists resulted in emerging ideas which have now become the new, eye-catching emergency department at the hospital in Thisted in the north-western corner of Denmark.
‘Today, ThermoAsk is an exclusive product used for anything from bathtubs to indoor floors,’ says Product Manager Thomas Nielsen, Frøslev Træ. ThermoAsk is a very special product that obtains durability and a unique look through heat treatment that contains no chemical toxins or gases hazardous to the environment or health.
Architects Friis & Moltke worked in close cooperation with engineer Rambøll to succeed with this unique project. Thanks to the rather unorthodox choice with terrace boards on the façade, the building owner, the North Denmark Region, now has a building out of the ordinary.
