Esbjerg University Campus
Esbjerg University Campus is a subdivision of Aalborg University. The new building is a 5-story university of a total of 4,500 sq m which opened in 2015. Frøslev supplied all the wood for the façade which consists of narrow cedar profiles combined in a simple and neat, architecturally beautiful pattern. The wooden cladding is vivid and provides a play between light and shadow.
Pictures from 2015 clearly show the reddish brown of the wood at the time of construction. Over the years, it has patinated into the beautiful silver grey-shade shown in the pictures from 2018. The changed colour of the wood allows the building to blend in with the area while the façade continues to look good.
Architects Rambøll Danmark A/S and Wiberg Arkitekter v/ arkitekt Pia Wiberg designed the large project in Esbjerg. The result is a large campus which will be an inspiring place for both students, lecturers and other employees to spend time. Passers-by can also enjoy the modern building that now adorns the cityscape.
Wood and profiles
- Cedar / Western Red Cedar 43 x 68 mm. The profiles are planed on 3 sides and band-sawn on 1 side.
- NB! Special requirements apply to cladding that is not designed according to the pre-accepted solutions described in the building regulations.
- A certified fire management consultant should assess the application in connection with the design of such cladding.
The Canadian cedar has a beautiful look with its warm glow and reddish-brown colour and extremely good durability which makes it suitable for cladding. Thomas Lindner Nielsen, Product Specialist, Frøslev
