Casa Ry
This award-winning building, Casa Ry, was completed in 2018 and had a very special starting point. It was meant to serve as home to the building owner, to have room for a conservatory and a workshop, but it was also meant to house the building owner’s two pairs of falcons.
The result was a three-winged building, clad with Canadian cedar from Frøslev Træ. The building breaks with the classic three-winged buildings that are often seen in Danish towns. Instead, architecture was played with, so aesthetics and function go hand in hand. There has also been focus on making it possible to enjoy the views of the nearby lake from a private and shielded outdoor area.
In 2019, the building won the recognised German architectural award Iconic Award in the category Innovative Architecture. When looking at Casa Ry, you will understand why. The façades are clad with cedar, patinating into beautiful shades of grey. The choice of wood materials underlines the fascination with traditional, winged buildings, and the horizontal cladding enhances the simple architectural look of the house.
Christoffersen Weiling Architects played with the building owner’s ideas of a twist on the well-known winged building. The result was an award-winning and unique building that not only supports the developer but also the two falcons who call one wing their home.
