Thermowood Fyr Bakkehusene 02

Bakkehusene

Bakkehusene in Lisbjerg north of Aarhus are social family dwellings where community and sustainability are paramount. The dwellings are located in clusters of 6-8 houses with open courtyards facing south which invite others in to socialise. They were completed in 2018. All façades, fences and integrated sheds are clad with Frøslev Embla ThermoWood.

The interesting thing about ThermoWood is that it is heat-treated with no use of toxins or harmful gases. The result is robust wood with a characteristic, brownish glow that patinates with time into a silver-grey shade. This shade is evident in the many pictures of the houses.

RUBOW Arkitekter A/S designed the modern houses that adorn the cityscape of the popular Aarhus N. Thanks to plenty of natural sunlight that shines through the well-placed windows and the surrounding green lawns, these pretty dwellings have become quite popular in the local area.
