Arboretum

In 2018, the brand-new building was ready for the arboretum, Arboretet, in Hørsholm. The arboretum was originally established in 1936 as an extension of the existing arboretum in Charlottenlund, and its purpose is to support teaching in forestry and horticultural botany.

It is clear that the new building was designed and built with the beautiful surrounding nature in mind. The use of natural materials, including Canadian cedar from Frøslev Træ, as well as large, open windows sections allow the surroundings into the stylish design. The raw materials are also used inside and constantly combine the building and its surroundings.

The new Arboretum is used for teaching, research projects and conferences. Around the building, more than 300 trees and shrubs have been planted which will eventually grow and be used for both teaching and research projects while bringing nature even closer to the building.

The new Arboretum was designed by architects Claus Francke and Gert Mikkelsen, and the building owner is 15. Juni Fonden that currently owns the arboretum. They worked together to create a building that is a smooth transition between man-made construction and outstanding nature.

Wood and profiles

  • The building is clad with Canadian cedar in profile 432 and 1x6" rough edge cut.

Cedar is an exclusive type of wood. Because of its beautiful appearance and extremely good durability, it is well suited for cladding.
